The site has been operated as a landfill and waste treatment facility since 1985 by the landowner who had previously operated the site before Raymond Brown acquired it. The site was developed over time with the erection of an open fronted materials recovery facility building (23.32m x 18.9m x 7.62m to eaves and 9.24m to apex) to allow sorting of mixed waste under cover. Planning in 2009 included extending the site recycling area onto adjoining farmland to include an inert recycling area.
Raymond Brown purchased the site and rail cutting from the receiver in June 2012. Since acquisition there has been a rationalisation of operations and a general upgrade of facilities.
Planning permission was granted to include the MRF building and improved facilities including the extended Inert Recycling Area in October 2009.
The planning permission is currently for temporary development until 31 December 2022 with a further year to restore the site. Recent minor variations have been issued for improved yard surfacing and lighting schemes.
